In terms of the filter: These are high school kids, with absolutely no connection to anyone I know - especially not anyone I know well. And my blog doesn't really link to anywhere else - no communities, etc. I don't think there is any way they would ever find my blog. So I was not concerned about that. And, just in case, I didn't use names.
Also, there are people I know who read my blog who have yet to get a username - which means they would be locked out of any filter I put up, and at least two of them are teachers, who might have some good advice for me.
In terms of the school: I get the sense that the policy is, call the parents. This is a small community school. There is really only one person above the person I showed the "essay" to. I don't really like the principal, and I feel like the person below her will handle it better.
So I have a feeling that, as his teacher, I will be the one who gets to take him aside - but I will check when I go in this morning. At the very least, he didn't even put in an effort to complete the assignment, and I am going to require that he rewrite it.
