So I'm getting two of my wisdom teeth out tomorrow.

And now I am trying to stock up on foods that I will be able to eat in the days immediately following tomorrow.

So far, I have:
- two flavors of applesauce
- three flavors of pudding
- a jello-like snack
- chocolate soy milk
- cottage cheese with fruit in it (not sure if that is quite the right texture)
- cream of wheat (again, not sure on the texture, but it seemed like a possible breakfast food)
- some potatoes and sweet potatoes to bake really thoroughly until they mash well

When I am home for the weekend, I am expecting to get:
- chicken soup (broth)
- gefilte fish
- hopefully some squash kugel or sweet potato kugel

If I am lucky, I will also get some pureed vegetable soup (my mom makes it and it is yummy)

If people can think of other foods that are mushy - especially foods that are not dairy, since I need to go light on that (hence I don't have yogurts and I probably should not have bought the cottage cheese either) - I am open to suggestions.

Cream of wheat ought to be the perfect texture.

You can also make mashed potatoes by boiling them and then mashing them- that's what I've usually done.

You can also mash other vegetables, if you get sick of potatoes- cauliflower mashes pretty well.

Other pureed soups are also good- butternut squash soup is excellent. And if you run out (which I doubt- I'm guessing that you'll be back to chewing normally within a few days) the Imagine brand ones are pretty good- especially the carrot-ginger one.

Once you can chew even just a little bit, you can do rice, pasta and the like.

I was told that rice is a bad idea in terms of it getting stuck where I don't want it stuck - which makes sense to me.

Thanks for the suggestions on the veggies. I was thinking eggplant might be a good one for mushiness.

Ahh, yes. But well, you'll be cleaning out the gap for a bit while your body fills over the gaps, and you'll go back to regular food well before that. But right away, I do see your point, while it's still sensitive. SO- larger pasta, then.

I ate a lot of miso soup with tofu and rice when I had my wisdom teeth out. Mushy, has protein, no dairy. You can get instant miso, but it's best if you get the paste and then cook it with some veggie broth.

Well.. good luck with this. I didn't have any real trouble with the whole thing, but are you going to the parental units or staying in town for shabbos?

Thanks. I think by the time I am back in the city, I will be well enough to get soup for myself. But thanks for the offer.

Home to the parentals - well, really to my mom, since my dad is in Israel for the week. But my brother, sister-in-law and nephew will also be there to coddle/entertain/pester me.
