Praising God

This afternoon, there was a thunderstorm. I looked out a window at my father's office to see how hard it was raining - and saw a fork of lightning against the sky! So I got to say a brachah that I don't get to say very often.
Last night, I went to a seudat hoda'ah - a meal to thank God for, in this case, the fact that a family friend did not die last summer when the doctors gave her a medication she was allergic to while she was in surgery. It was so wonderful to see her social network - family and friends - all around one long table. It was also amazing that, instead of being angry at God because her surgery did not go as planned, and because, instead of making her healthier, it made her a whole lot sicker, she felt a need to thank God that, after all that, she made it out alive. This impresses me.
This particular friend has had such a difficult life - many hospitalizations from an illness/disability that has plagued her since she was a baby. And yet, she is so strong and so positive about life. It really amazes me.
